A high-performance engine is in the EX, Touring and EX-L trims. These models come with a 1.5-Liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine. The turbo produces up to 174 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft of torque and comes exclusively with a continuously variable transmission in the sedan version.

The 2020 Toyota Corolla offers a 1.8-Liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 139 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 126 lb.-ft of torque for the standard L and LE trim models. The SE models come with a more powerful 2.0-Liter four-cylinder engine, creating 169 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft of torque. Most of the Corolla options come with a continuously variable transmission as well, with an optional manual transmission on certain trims.
