Technology is always advancing, whether from want or need, and the same is true with the technology used to create the vehicles you see on the road today. Hybrid vehicles are becoming more and more popular but their engines have always used rare-earth metals in their production. As China produces 90% of rare-earth metals and their demand is expected to go up 14% every year, Honda knew they needed to break their reliance on the materials.

Now, using a material called neodymium, the automaker plans to create more affordable and physically lighter hybrid engines! This technology will be used for the upcoming hybrid minivan called Honda Freed, set to be released in Japan later this year. We can't wait to hear more about its success.

There's no word on a western release of the Freed but we'll keep you updated here on the blog when details arise. In the meantime, make your way out to our Nashville, TN dealership and explore everything that our wide selection of new Honda models has to bring to your daily drives.
